Zandspruit awaits action after premier visit
Following a peaceful protest, Zandspruit residents welcomed a visit from the Premier’s office to assess poor service delivery and collapsing infrastructure first-hand.
Zandspruit residents were visited by representatives of the Premier’s office on July 22. This follows a community memorandum raising an extreme lack of service delivery in the area during a peaceful protest on June 27.
The delegation toured the community on a walkabout led by Ward 114 councillor David Mangena, starting at Emthonjeni and moving through key areas such as Mbele Street, Wolf Street, the transit camp, and the clinic, and concluding at Masakhane Primary School and extensions 9 and 10.

The purpose of the visit was for the representatives of the Premier’s office to see first-hand all of the issues that were listed in the memorandum. They observed the collapsed infrastructure and clogged toilets, among many other issues that residents have faced for some time.
Ward 114 Councillor David Mangena said, “I am happy that they are so eager to help,” he said. “They will now sit down with the city of Johannesburg and will come back to the community of Zandspruit and discuss the next steps within the next week.”
Residents will be updated once officials return with the relevant departments from the City of Johannesburg to begin the next phase of improvements.
For now, Zandspruit residents are watching closely and waiting for action to follow the promises made.
