Some units still experience shocks in showers in Randpark complex

Residents in Randpark Ridge complex are concerned about their safety as the shocks in their showers continue.

Residents on Villa Divané in Randpark Ridge are still experiencing shocks in their showers despite City Power’s claims that they have attended to and fixed the issue.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena on July 3 confirmed that they have attended to and fixed the electrical shock issue in Randpark Ridge, specifically in complexes including Villa Divane, Villa Limar, and Escada Estate.

He said that they conducted a full technical investigation and identified a fault related to the earthing and neutral system in the supply network. Corrective measures were implemented, which included testing and verifying the integrity of earth connections within the area.

“Technicians confirmed the restoration of safe supply conditions following the repair,” said Mangena. “The safety and well-being of our customers remains our top priority, and our teams remain on standby to respond urgently to any similar faults reported across the city. The matter was treated as urgent due to the potential safety hazard.”

A resident of Villa Divané, Terry Holton, confirmed that some units in the complex are still experiencing an electrical current flowing through their taps.

He explained that the issue has been going on ever since the cable at the traffic lights near the complex was replaced.

“The voltage is approximately 12-15volts. There has been no improvement since City Power attended to it. It’s unpleasant to touch tapes while showering, and we hope the entity can connect cables correctly.”

City Power advised residents never to touch taps, water pipes, or electrical appliances if they suspect an electric shock, especially when standing barefoot or with wet hands. Instead, they should stay clear of the affected area and report the issue for urgent attention.

More questions were sent to the entity and will be published once made available.
