Medical student denied bail in Randburg rape case
A 25-year-old medical student, accused of raping and assaulting six boys in Randburg, was denied bail, with the court citing risks to justice, per News24.
A 25-year-old medical student and maths tutor was denied bail in the Randburg Regional Court on July 31, facing charges of raping and sexually assaulting six boys aged 10 to 14, according to News24.
The accused, whose name is withheld until he pleads, allegedly targeted boys from single-parent homes in the Bromhof complex in Randburg, where he lived.
The case surfaced when a new resident raised concerns in a community WhatsApp group about the man’s behaviour with children. One mother’s 11-year-old son revealed the accused molested him, took nude photographs, and showed inappropriate images, per Detective Constable Cholofelo Mwodisapodi’s affidavit. The boy said the accused ignored his pleas to stop and demanded secrecy.
Facing nine counts, including one rape, six sexual assaults, and two grooming charges, the accused was well-liked, often playing with children and supervising pool visits. A mother hired him to tutor her son, trusting him to improve his maths grades. The allegations have left mothers devastated.

In court, the accused denied the claims, seeking bail to complete his Wits University master’s dissertation by August 2025. He offered to relocate during the trial. Magistrate Abdul Qadir Khan rejected bail, citing risks of witness interference and harm to justice. The victims’ mothers, visibly upset, filled the gallery.
The case has shocked Bromhof residents. The case will resume on August 28, with investigations ongoing.
