The Grade 6 learner was known as a helper at the school. He often assisted teachers and fellow learners – whether it was putting friends to sleep during naptime, handing out exam papers, or protecting others from bullies, even at his own expense. His kindness and selflessness shone in everything he did. He achieved many certifications from Kumon, completing level A maths and AI English with pride. This year, he successfully passed term two of Grade 6 before falling ill, and having to remain home to recover.
His teacher, Lebo Lepheane, explained that Alakani was a kind, loving, and attentive learner, who valued and respected those around him. “We will miss the way he brightened our lives and our hearts. The memories of him will remain gentle reminders of the love and happiness he brought into our lives.”

Outside school, Alakani had a deep love for cars and soccer. At the age of eight, he joined Bryanston Warriors Football Club, where he took his position as a defender seriously, working to be the best for his team. Unfortunately, he had to retire from the field to play more on his PlayStation, due to his health condition.
He captured the hearts of many with his angelic smile, which could soften even the hardest of hearts and sometimes persuade them into gifting him money for his beloved gadgets and sneakers.
He spent all his days by his mother’s side, who loved him beyond measure, and cared for him tenderly until his last breath.
