Quinn Lubbe, chairperson of the RRA, explained that they had a major setback with the event. “The City of Johannesburg has insisted that we need to complete a whole lot of paperwork, and have to appear to make a presentation to a panel for permission to host the event.

“There is not enough time to get the necessary permissions, so we have no choice but to cancel the event. They are refusing to let us go ahead.”

The evening was aimed at supporting various charities, with attendees being asked to bring donations, such as dry or tinned food, clothes and shoes, toiletries, toys, stationery, and any household items that are still in good condition.

“We sincerely apologise for this. We have never had to do this in the past, so it has taken us totally by surprise.”
