IQ Football celebrates season success at Delta Park

IQ Football wrapped up its season at Delta Park with a celebration honouring young players, recognising their growth and giving parents a rare chance to see them in action.

IQ Football closed off its season with a lively celebration at Delta Park, bringing together young players, parents and coaches for a day focused on recognition, development and community values.

The organisation trains children from the age of three up to U17 level, offering what founder Sean Szabo described as a holistic approach to football.
“We develop players on the field but also off the field,” he said. “It’s character building as well.”

Saturday’s event gave the younger teams a chance to showcase what they had learned throughout the year. One of the highlights was a friendly match between some of the children and their parents, creating a cheerful atmosphere for families who do not always get to attend training sessions.

Szabo said the aim of the gathering was simple: to honour the players for their hard work and growth. Each child received a personalised certificate recognising their progress, strengths and areas for improvement.
“We just want to celebrate the boys and girls and how they’ve done for the year,” he said. “It also gives many parents the chance to see the combination of how the year has gone.”

Alongside its work in Randburg, IQ Football continues to expand its community outreach. For the past three years, the programme has supported young players from Zandspruit and Alexandra by providing training opportunities and transport. That effort has now grown into something bigger.

This year, one of IQ Football’s partners helped secure a new training field in the heart of Zandspruit, located on the grounds of a local daycare centre. What was once an overgrown, unused space has now been cleared and developed into a proper football field.

Szabo said the new field has strengthened their commitment to serving the community.

“We really feel we’ve been given something to help the people there. We want to open it up to about 100 players, if not more.”

The organisation aims to take its full training model, including mentoring, brain-centred coaching and character development, directly into Zandspruit, making it easier for local children to participate without transport barriers.

Szabo believed the field could become a positive space for young people in the area.
“It’s right there in the community, very accessible,” he said. “We’re hoping it has a positive impact, so players spend their afternoons playing football rather than getting involved in other things.”

As IQ Football wraps up another year, the Delta Park celebration reflected not only the achievements of its players but also the organisation’s growing efforts to use sport as a tool for upliftment and transformation.
