Maridien Cosmo City School hosted an exciting spelling bee on November 28, giving learners a chance to test their language skills and build confidence in front of their teachers and classmates. The event formed part of the school’s broader career expo activities but stood out on its own as a lively and competitive programme.

Learners from different grades took part, each stepping up to spell words of increasing difficulty. The atmosphere was filled with nerves, focus, and plenty of encouragement from the audience. Teachers said the spelling bee was introduced to strengthen vocabulary, improve listening skills, and promote a love of reading.

As the rounds continued, the demands grew, but the participants showed strong preparation and determination. Many impressed the audience with their calmness and quick thinking, even when faced with tricky words.

A major highlight of the day was the announcement of the top three winners in the primary school category, all from Stephenson Primary School: Bohlale Nyathi, who took first place, was very excited to come away with the win. “The words got harder as the competition progressed, and even though the competition was fierce, I am grateful that I won today,” she said. Ngonidzashe Kgomongwe came second, and Tamika Mutimbanyoka was third.

The three learners were celebrated for their outstanding performance, while all participants were applauded for their effort and courage.

Teachers said they hope to continue hosting the spelling bee every year, as it offers a fun and meaningful way for learners to grow their language skills. The event ended with smiles, certificates and a strong sense of pride across the school community.
