Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder afflicted The King’s School matriculant achieves remarkable results

Class of 2025 matriculant Kristin Basson shines, bagging three distinctions despite having severe ADHD and a learning disability.

Kristin Basson achieved the unimaginable in her matric results despite having severe attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a learning disability.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. It is characterised by signs such as difficulty with focus, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Kristin, who was part of The King’s School Robin Hills Class of 2025, defied all odds and achieved three distinctions, results that left her parents in tears.

Her mother, Manet, explained that when her daughter started out in Grade 8, they were actually contemplating some schools because of her condition. “When she was small, they told us, she might not be able to go the normal educational route. Maybe we should think about special education.”

Manet praised The King’s School for standing beside her daughter. “The school is the most amazing ever. The journey that they took her through and the assistance they gave with extra work, she managed to end up with three distinctions, which is unheard of.

“She worked extremely hard. I have never, never experienced a school that’s stuck by her and rooted for her. She was never treated differently. The faith they had in her and the solid foundation they gave, it was just amazing.”

She added that they never imagined such a result. They were just hoping for a pass.

Kristin said that her school journey has been amazing. “I really didn’t like my primary school years, but since I came to King’s, everything skyrocketed. It was so much fun. I loved it. I am really proud of the results and grateful that I came to King’s.”

Kristin worked really hard to achieve her remarkable results. She gave up sports so that she could study every single day.
