Residents in Region B will soon have direct access to the City of Johannesburg Ombudsman, with two community outreach events planned in Randburg in early February.

The Johannesburg Ombudsman’s office, led by Adv Siduduzo Gumede, will host a citizen information clinic on February 5 from 10:00 to 16:00 at the Ferndale Recreation Centre.

The clinic is a weekday event aimed at educating residents about their rights and explaining how to lodge complaints related to city services. Residents will also be guided on how the Ombudsman’s office works, and what support it can offer when issues with the city are not resolved.

This will be followed by an open day on February 7 from 8:00 to 16:00 at the Randburg Civic Centre.

Unlike the clinic, the open day is a weekend event where several city departments will be present in one place. This allows residents to raise concerns and, where possible, have issues addressed on the spot.
Residents attending either event are advised to bring the following documents:

• A valid ID,
• Proof of residence, and
• Municipal accounts.

According to the Ombudsman’s office, assistance will be provided with billing and service-related queries, updates on existing complaints, and the registration of new complaints. Issues involving departments such as City Power, Johannesburg Water, and other municipal services can also be raised.

Gumede encouraged residents to make use of the opportunity, saying the outreach events are aimed at turning community concerns into real solutions through direct engagement with the city.
