UPDATE: Armed suspects rob cash van at Bram Fischer store

A cash-in-transit heist unfolded at a Randburg shopping centre, with eyewitnesses reporting gunfire, a pursuit, and a disabled security vehicle.

Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a cash and carry store on Bram Fischer Drive in Randburg on January 28.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the incident happened at about 13:00 while a cash-in-transit vehicle crew was loading money into an ATM at the store.

Four unknown armed suspects reportedly overpowered the security officers and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects then fled the scene in a white Toyota SUV believed to have been using false registration plates.

The security officers attempted to chase the suspects in their vehicle, but were forced to stop after their tyre was shot during the pursuit.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), also known as the Hawks, is handling the investigation into the armed robbery.

Police have not yet made any arrests, and investigations are continuing.
