A Randpark Ridge family lost their home after a fire broke out on Sering Street, with emergency services battling the blaze as the roof began to collapse.

The alert was received via the Honeydew Emergency Group shortly before 12:30, prompting a swift response from multiple organisations alongside Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) patrollers.

By the time crews arrived on the scene, the house was already fully engulfed in flames. Despite their best efforts, the fire had spread too far to save the property, and the home was completely destroyed.

Honeydew CPF patrollers assisted by closing roads in the surrounding area to give emergency crews clear and unobstructed access. Randpark Drive was also temporarily closed after responding crews were unable to locate nearby water outlets, requiring fire hoses to be laid across the roadway.

The difficulty in finding a working fire hydrant during the response has prompted a reminder from the CPF to residents across the area. Michael Steyn, public relations officer for the Honeydew CPF, urged homeowners to take a moment to identify the nearest fire hydrant to their property, ensure it is clearly marked, and urged residents to take the warning seriously.

“We urge all residents to identify the nearest fire hydrant to their home, make sure it is clearly marked, and keep it free from obstruction,” he said.

“For those in residents’ associations, this is something worth raising as a community safety project. It could make a real difference when emergency crews respond to an incident,” he concluded.
