Honeydew ranks highest in the province for unspecified theft categories in the fourth quarter crime statistics

SAPS crime statistics indicate Honeydew remains prominent across multiple categories, with notable increases in several crime types during the past quarter.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has released the crime statistics for the fourth quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, covering January to March 2026.


These statistics are crucial for informing policy development and planning within the criminal justice system. Notably, the report ranks stations based on their crime statistics, with the top station having the most criminal activity in its area and the bottom having the least.


Among police stations in the Randburg area, Honeydew appeared in most crime categories, showing both increases and decreases compared to the previous quarter. Honeydew ranked second in the province and eighth nationally for 17 serious crimes reported by the community, with the number increasing slightly from 1 644 last year to 1 665.

Cosmo City ranked fifth in the province for attempted murder, with an increase from 19 to 23 cases, bringing the total to 42. For common robbery in Randburg, the provincial ranking rose to number four, increasing by 42 cases from 47 to 89. Honeydew also saw an increase of 59 cases, while Douglasdale recorded an increase from 36 to 58 cases in recent years.


For trio crimes, Honeydew saw a slight increase, from 77 to 79, while Cosmo City numbers decreased from 72 to 62 in 2026.


In carjacking cases, Honeydew saw a drop of 3 counts, from 35 to 32 in 2026. Meanwhile, Cosmo City decreased from 30 to 29.


Honeydew ranked fifth in Gauteng in robbery at residential premises. The count increased to 34 compared to 28 in 2025. For robbery at non-residential premises, Honeydew stats showed a decrease of 1 count, from 14 to 13 in 2026.


Randburg saw a decrease in truck hijacking, from 5 to 4 counts. For counts in kidnapping, Honeydew saw a decrease from 36 to 32. In property-related crime, which refers to crimes during which tangible property of an individual or institution is taken by criminal elements without permission, and in the absence of the owner/custodian of such property, Honeydew ranked third provincially and sixth nationally, with a decrease from 545 to 388 cases reported.


Theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles in Honeydew saw an increase of 104 cases reported compared to 97 in the previous year. Linden recorded 61, and Cosmo City saw a decrease from 80 to 61 recorded cases in 2026.

Theft out of or from a motor vehicle, Honeydew went from 140 to 151 reported cases. They rank third in other serious crimes, with a slight increase from 726 to 734 in 2026, with Douglasdale recording 589 compared to 620 in the previous year.


In all thefts not mentioned elsewhere, Honeydew ranked top in the province, despite a decrease from 358 to 309 in 2026.


For commercial crime, Honeydew saw a massive increase of 68 reported cases, from 303 in 2025 to 371 cases in 2026. Douglasdale went up from 270 to 317 in 2026, and Randburg had 234 counts.


For shoplifting, Douglasdale saw a slight increase to 83 cases from 75 last year, while Linden went from 52 to 55. Honeydew saw a decrease from 65 last year to 54 this year.


For driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs cases, Honeydew saw an increase from 86 to 102 in 2026.
