Darkness reigns as Randburg residents face more than 10 days without electricity

Residents on Barkston Drive continue to wait for power to be restored after experiencing an outage for more than 10 days.

Residents of Barkston Drive in Blairgowrie, and several other surrounding areas in Randburg, have been left frustrated after enduring more than 10 days without electricity, with no clear indication of when power will be restored.

The prolonged outage has disrupted daily life. At a meeting with Ward 102 councillor Bea Campbell-Cloete, many residents said the uncertainty has made the situation even more difficult, as they continue to wait for updates on the restoration of electricity.

Campbell-Cloete acknowledged the ongoing outage, and confirmed that contractors have been on site along Barkston Drive, where they are installing a replacement cable as part of efforts to restore the electricity supply. “This area has been without power for 12 days, after, we are told, one of the copper cables in some way or another was replaced with an ABC cable. They are on site to replace the cable with the permanent cable.”

City Power was sent questions regarding the issue, and their response will be published once it is made available.

Community members hope the repairs will be completed soon, but are calling for clearer communication from the relevant authorities. Until then, affected households continue to face the daily challenges and inconvenience caused by the extended blackout.
