Diggers Rugby Club brings together hundreds of junior players for thrilling youth club festival

The Golden Lions Rugby Union Youth Club Festival brought together hundreds of young players at Diggers Rugby Club, all using the opportunity to fine-tune their skills ahead of the upcoming season.

Diggers Rugby Club came alive as it hosted a massive Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) Youth Club Festival, bringing together hundreds of young rugby players for an event filled with friendly competition and outstanding talent.

The day served as an ideal platform for clubs to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the upcoming season, while allowing players to showcase their skills.

The festival featured matches across all age groups, from the energetic U6 division through to the highly competitive U18 teams. Every game was played in a spirited and sportsmanlike manner, with the emphasis on player development, teamwork, and enjoying the game.

Junior chairperson at the club Jeanne Opperman praised the festival’s success, noting that it provided game time for players and strengthened relationships among participating clubs. “We hosted five junior clubs. It was just a fun day, so that our boys can get game time and further develop.”

She added that the day went very well and was well supported by the fans. “Everyone seemed to be enjoying it, and it was good to see the boys and girls perform in front of the crowd and their parents.”
With the new season underway, the event offered coaches an opportunity to assess their squads while allowing young players to build their confidence.

Rugby supporters turned out in large numbers to cheer on the future stars of the game, creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the day. Parents, coaches, and fans lined the sidelines, applauding the determination, discipline, and enthusiasm displayed by every team.
