Another leak plagues Pretoria Avenue as hundreds of litres of water flows down the road
A new water leak has erupted on Pretoria Avenue, and Johannesburg Water hasn’t attended to it, despite numerous reports and escalations.
Hundreds of litres of fresh water continue to flow at the corner of Pretoria Avenue and Harley Street as a leak remains unattended.
In July 2025, the area had a big leak, which led to a water outage for over three days. Johannesburg Water attended to and fixed the leak, restoring the road, but today, a year later, a new leak has emerged in the same area.

Ward 102 councillor Bea Campbell-Cloete explained that on July 10, she once again logged a service request for the compromised water pipe.
A work order was created, and a Johannesburg Water team was assigned to carry out the repairs. On July 12, she conducted an oversight inspection at the site, confirming that, despite the work order having been issued, no repair team had visited the location.
“Following the inspection, I escalated the matter by writing to the city manager, Johannesburg Water, and copying citizen relationship and urban management on the correspondence, highlighting both the ongoing water loss and the deteriorating conditions at the site.”
Almost two weeks after the latest service request was logged, water continues to gush from the damaged pipe, with absolutely no intervention from the entity.

“The volume of potable water being lost every day is unacceptable, particularly at a time when residents across Johannesburg endure water restrictions, supply interruptions, and repeated calls to conserve this precious resource.”
Campbell-Cloete added that she engaged with the Randburg depot, being asked to resend the service reference number. “I have done so, and have once again been assured that the matter will be expedited. Unfortunately, residents have heard these assurances before.
“I will continue to monitor the situation closely and hold Johannesburg Water accountable until this repair is finally completed.”
