The Fakude Foundation hosted its second annual All Girls and Women in Sports Day Tournament at the Cosmo City Multi-Purpose Centre, drawing teams from the local community for a day of competitive sport.

The tournament, which the foundation runs every year, gives girls and women a dedicated platform to compete. Although this year’s turnout of teams was smaller than last year’s, organisers said the day still ran smoothly. Oscar Fakude, director and CEO of the Fakude Foundation, said he was pleased with how the tournament unfolded, even with fewer teams taking part. “I won’t lie, in terms of the teams’ turnout this year, it has been low compared to last year,” Fakude said, “but regardless, the tournament went exceptionally well.”

He praised the conduct of the teams that did take part, as well as the running of the event itself. “All teams were behaving, all teams co-operated with us,” he said. “The tournament was well organised and went accordingly.”

Fakude added that the foundation was proud of how the day had come together, calling organisation and management the foundation’s core strength. “We, as Fakude Foundation, were very happy with how everything turned out today,” he said. “Regardless of the low turnout of the teams, in terms of the whole co-ordination and management of the tournament, which is our expertise, it went exceptionally well.”

The tournament featured three age categories. In the U13 division, Dee Warriors took first place, with Naturena finishing second, in the U15 division, Naturena NC claimed the top spot, with All Stars coming in second, and in the open division, Cosmo Slow Killers won first place, with Cosmo Manchester Eagles taking second.

No third-place finishes were awarded in any category, as each age group featured only two competing teams.
