FONTAINEBLEAU – Fontainebleau residents caught the heaviest fish at a species fishing competition in Mozambique, and won a boat worth R450 000.
Fontainebleau residents won a big boat for catching a big fish in Mozambique.
Mandy and Michael Webster (9), mother and son from Fontainebleau, competed in the 17th Species Bonanza held by Guinjata Sports Fishing Club, in Guinjata, Mozambique, between 9 and 13 June.
They competed in Team Magwana – along with Mark and Richard Warner – against about 200 other competitors in 50 teams.
And won the competition for catching the heaviest game fish that was not a billfish.
They caught a Wahoo weighing 37kg, which Mandy called “a fish of a lifetime.”
For this they were awarded a boat worth R450 000.
It was a Z-Craft F200 Kingcat, fitted with two 115 horsepower OptiMax motors on an LA Axle trailer.
“It was kind of a dream,” Mandy said.
“We were all over the moon.”
