Time to sweat the season

Professional chef Mandisa Dube-Gumede (25) is a fitness and nutrition enthusiast.
Dube-Gumede has launched her #SweatWithMandi fitness challenge to provide those who participate with an online community committed to 21 days of fitness.

After a tumultuous year, the festive season has begun to usher in a sigh of relief for many South Africans. The time spent indoors during hard lockdown meant that many found unique mechanisms to cope. For Dube-Gumede, exercise was what she relied on as sport has always played a large part in her life. In the three weeks which lead up to December, the Durbanite began her 21-day fitness challenge on Instagram to lead by example.

“I wanted to challenge people not only to get fit but to see that if they could be consistent for 21 days, because it’s said that you form a new habit after 21 days.”

Dube-Gumede’s love of nature and the outdoors has led her to do her home workouts outside.

“I love being outside in general you’ll also see me hiking or cycling at the beach or even snorkeling with sharks – those are the types of activities I enjoy doing.”

Participants in the challenge were encouraged to post their workout which corresponded with the exercise line-up for the day, posted to her Instagram story. Dube-Gumede also expressed a desire to change the face of fitness through the challenge, and open up people’s perception to see fitness as something which was attainable.
