Taekwondo class in Bromhof sees children as young as six learn martial arts

Youngsters enjoy a seminar on the basics of taekwondo at KJD Martial Arts Academy.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

So the proverb goes, and KJD Martial Arts Academy is certainly imparting their knowledge and guidance to the next generation in terms of martial arts and the principles that come with it.

Children as young as six years old took part in a seminar hosted by 6th dan Thomas du Plessis, a visiting instructor from Kumgang Taekwondo, Kimberley.

“I did an introduction to fighting seminar, which had basic attacking and counter-attacking techniques and some sparring at the end,” Du Plessis told Randburg Sun.

“I want them to become comfortable with sparring. This so they will have confidence when they do start competitions and actual fights.”

“It was a very good class,” he said.

“It focused on the basics and not everyone here is new to taekwondo but you can always go over the fundamentals again. It does help.”

KJD instructor, 4th dan Lorraine Lee was on hand to assist with the seminar and help children out with the technique in their punches and kicks.
