Future stars shine at Old Park tournament

Young footballers lit up the pitch over three action-packed days of skill, passion, and unforgettable moments.

For three unforgettable days, Old Park transformed into a vibrant hub of junior football as a 6-a-side tournament brought together young talent from across the divisions.

From the lively U6 teams taking their first competitive steps to the confident and skilful U17 players, the grounds were filled with energy, determination, and excitement.

Matches ran throughout the day, with teams sharing pitches and time slots, creating a constant flow of action. The sound of referees’ whistles, thundering footsteps, and the striking of balls against nets set the tone for a thrilling atmosphere.

Every player stepped onto the field eager to prove themselves, showcasing dazzling footwork, clever passes, and fearless shots on goal.

On behalf of Old Parks Football Club, chairperson Sylvania Sheppard extended sincere appreciation to all those who contributed to the planning, organisation, and execution of this tournament.

“The event was a commendable reflection of the standards and values that this club holds dear. The tournament was executed with admirable efficiency. Fixtures commenced on schedule, the programme ran without delay from start to finish, and the overall coordination demonstrated the professionalism that our committee and technical staff consistently bring to club events.”

She acknowledged all Old Parks members for their willingness to support the event, with 209 teams participating over the three days.

“The quality of football displayed across the age groups was highly encouraging and, in several instances, surpassed expectations. Notably, the conduct of our young players was also commendable, as they competed with determination while consistently demonstrating respect for their opponents, teammates, and match officials throughout. This standard of sportsmanship is a direct reflection of the coaching culture fostered at Old Parks and speaks well of the programme we have built.”

Supporters came out in large numbers, lining the sidelines with enthusiasm. Parents, friends, and coaches clapped, cheered, and encouraged every move, creating a sense of unity. The tournament was not about winning, but about growth, teamwork, memories and celebration of youth football at its finest.

Sheppard added that the tournament was a strong demonstration of what Old Parks Football Club stands for. “The infrastructure is sound, the culture is positive, and the commitment of our people is evident at every level. I am confident that future editions of this tournament will continue to grow in stature and impact.”
