Tyreece ready to grow in Super GP

SUNDOWNER – Young racer ready to take on Super GP.

14-year-old Tyreece Robert may seem like a normal boy until you see him on a motorcycle going around a racetrack at incredible speed.

Craig Robert, father of the Grade 8 pupil at Curro Aurora, Sundowner, explained that Tyreece started racing at the age of eight and he has been involved with racing fast motorcycles ever since.

“He started off with racing little pocket bikes when he was eight and he was competitive since the start,” said Craig.

He continued that his son soon started developing skills and a feel for the bikes.

“Tyreece moved up a class a couple of years later when he started to compete on a Honda CBR 150cc bike and in 2010 he led the Moto GP championship until his bike started developing mechanical issues during the last race and he ended in second place.”

Robert started to complete in the SuperJunior section of the National Super GP Series on a KTM RC390 motorcycle.

“The sport poses lots of challenges as its a very expensive sport with the motorcycles starting off at around R80 000 per bike. This excludes the cost for each race and parts on the bikes,” Craig said.

He continued that a high point in Robert’s career so far was when he competed in a SuperGP race at the prestigious Assen TT Circuit in the Netherlands and won on a KTM motorcycle.

“Recently he took his first podium position at the last round of Super GP that took place at Zwartkops Raceway at the end of April and he is already in preparation for his next challenge that will take place in [the Netherlands] later this year.”
