SA Hip Hop dancers compete internationally

Four dancers from Sharonlea and Randpark Ridge will be competing in the International Dance Organisation (IDO) World Hip Hop championships from 21–25 October in Rimini, Italy.

Selina Jardim, Amanda Thornton, Lindi Vlok and Von Shéle Lottering will be dancing for the groups Vision and Full Circle.

They will be participating in the Hip Hop Adult Two category which consists of dancers 31 years and older.

According to Jardim Full Circle is made up of 19 dancers who will compete in the formation category and the six dancers from Vision will compete in the small group category.

Thornton said her experience with the two groups had been exciting but challenging.

She said she is grateful for the opportunity to be able to live out her passion and to be able to represent South Africa.

“We make an amazing team and I can’t wait to bring home the gold cup,” said Thornton.

Vlok, being a dance instructor herself, said she has a deep love for dance and also thrives on the challenge to compete.

“Our team is inspiring and South African dancers are known for their energy, thus I believe this energy will translate onto the dance floor in Italy,” said Vlok.

Full Circle and Vision have been training and competing internationally since 2010 and have brought home a number of significant medals.

In 2010 Full Circle secured a silver medal and in 2011 a gold medal, with Vision taking second place

In 2012 Vision brought the silver medal home and Full Circle the bronze. In 2013 Vision took the gold while Full Circle won silver.

Jardim said getting a second chance to live her dream has meant a great deal to her.

“Being a wife, mother and professional can cause you to get lost in these roles and easily forget who you actually are. Dancing with the groups has given me the opportunity to reconnect with my soul,” said Jardim
