Welcome to planet rAge

NORTH RIDING - Residents from all over Gauteng escaped to planet rAge over the weekend of 7 to 9 October.

The annual rAge expo recently held at the Ticket Pro Dome once again saw thousands of feet through its doors to experience the latest in games and technology.

“Everything we do is inspired by the things we, as gamers ourselves, love and enjoy,” said marketing, promotions and public relations officer of rAge, Lauren Das Neves.

As it does every year, rAge offers gamers the chance to experience computer, PlayStation and other games before they are even available at gaming outlets. Even new technology, such as virtual reality gaming, was introduced at the expo, where individuals felt as if they were in the game instead of just looking at a screen.

Furthermore, gaming merchandise and other comic and movie paraphernalia were on sale. Cosplayers were out in full force with their costumes and makeup, some for the fun of it and others in an attempt to win prizes in the cosplay competitions.

In case gamers needed a break from staring at a screen, the Unplug Yourself stand allowed individuals to try out board and card games.

Lastly, what made this rAge expo extra special was that it played host to the first South African eSports Summit on 7 October. Here, special guests in the industry discussed the potential of eSports in South Africa and how local broadcasters are looking to create more awareness around eSports.
