Crafters Create on Cherry
RANDPARK – Cherry Park was the site of many talented crafters for the second annual Randpark Residents Association Crafters Market.
The second annual Randpark Residents Association Crafters Market saw 50 stallholders and the community enjoy the sunshine out in Cherry Park.
Market organiser, Sheelagh Bates said, “The market was even more successful than last year. We had a wonderful response by the residents supporting our second market.
“I have always been involved with arts and crafts and have been teaching ceramic painting for the past 15 years. So I decided last year to start our residential market in support of people who make handmade items.”
This year, the stallholders made donations to the value of R1 900 to Border Collie Rescue, a non-profit organisation which rescues and re-homes stray border collies.
Vice chairperson of Border Collie Rescue, Gillian Pearson said, “The Cherry Market helped to raise awareness of Border Collie Rescue within the community. Although we met a number of folk who had already adopted from us in the past, and it was really good to renew those contacts and meet new people.
“Being the beneficiary of the market was wonderful for the organisation, as we volunteers all strive to keep the shelter going in difficult times. The average monthly running costs are about R60 000, so this donation will go a long way towards helping the organisation care for more than 400 collies that we home each year.”
Other charities, such as Blessed Hands, used the market to promote their African wire-work. Waverley Girl Guides used the platform to raise funds for an international visit by teaching other children how to decorate cupcakes and paint. The Robinhills Cubs taught children to do different knots and other useful crafts.
