Global musical sweeps Lyric Theatre
Local actor Craig Urbani stars in the theatre production of Rock of Ages.
North Riding’s very own big-time actor Craig Urbani has been lighting up the stage at the Lyric Theatre.
He’s been starring in the Rock of Ages SA musical that is entering its final run this December. Urbani plays the role of Dennis, the owner of a legendary venue for rock bands called The Bourbon Room.
“He is a chilled rocker dude who lives for all things rock n roll, very colourful and loveable character with a rebellious streak,” said Urbani.
“I loved the process of learning the staging and choreography for the show. The show is all about having fun and that energy seeped into the rehearsal process. Our choreographer Weslee Lauder did an awesome job of capturing the feel and energy and giving us moves that enhance the show and tell the story.”
The songs in the musical are pop-rock anthems that Urbani remembers as a youngster. He said the show was world-class and audiences could expect a slick and powerful show.
“Our cast could perform this show on any stage anywhere in the world to a screaming crowd and a standing ovation,” he added.
“The production has been endorsed by the Americans who own the rights to the piece and were astounded by what they saw on our opening night. There is talk of the show going on an international tour. This has been and will continue to be one of the happiest and exhilarating theatre experiences of my career.
“The cast is so hard working and have the most positive attitudes. We’ve all had so much fun and our energy and vibe shoots off the stage and into the audience. It’s an honour to be a part of Rock of Ages.”
Rock of Ages performances will run Monday to Friday at 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 3pm and 8pm.
