Police worry about Cosmo crime increase
HONEYDEW – Car theft, hijacking, robberies and house robberies continue to be a problem.
Honeydew police are worried about a recent spike in crime in the Cosmo City area.
Crimes that continue to be a problem for the police and have seen an increase include car theft, hijacking, robberies and house robberies.
Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “One of the biggest issues that we have to deal in house robberies are the ‘backrooms’. This is where an individual gets an RDP house and builds multiple rooms at the back of the property for others to rent out.
“This makes things more efficient for criminals. When one property is robbed, it actually results in multiple house robbery cases at one time because of this.”
Muthan added that he hoped that plans for a dedicated Cosmo City Police Station could be finalised by the end of July.
“Hopefully, when the new station is built, crime statistics will be reduced in Honeydew.”
