Local Linden artwork on lighters

LINDEN – BIC is proud to announce that Linden resident Corlia Pretorius has won their Afrilights competition, and her artistic design will be placed on lighters for sale across the country.

BIC is proud to announce that Linden resident Corlia Pretorius has won their Afrilights competition, and her artistic design will be placed on lighters for sale across the country.

Pretorius entered the competition on a whim while scrolling through Facebook and ended up being a winner.
BIC wanted a range of lighters inspired and designed by Africans, for Africans, and created the competition for all to enter with their most inspiring images of the country for the chance to have their art featured on a BIC pocket lighter.

“After I read the inspiration behind the BIC Afrilights campaign, I was motivated to enter because I recently completed artwork for the university with a similar concept. I was very excited to see what my painting would look like on a BIC lighter as I believe it is a great presentation of what BIC Afrilights stands for,” she said.

Pretorius studied fine and applied arts at the Tshwane University of Technology, where she received her degree in Arts in 2018. She is currently a teacher at My Tutor and Teaching Centre in Linden, where she teaches art, Afrikaans, and computer application technology.
She continued, “The theme for the art project I create my image for was about connecting ourselves to Africa and our culture. For this piece, I deconstructed a photo of myself to the most basic facial features and filled it with a typical, multi-coloured African sunset.

“I am a very creative and artistic person, and I am absolutely passionate about art, language, and teaching. I am very blessed to be able to do all three within my profession.”
She encouraged aspiring creatives to stay true to what you love, enjoy and know.
“There is sure to be millions of people who admire and share your perspective. Live your passion and the rewards will follow,” she concluded.

The BIC Afrilights range is available at Pick n Pay, Game and Spar stores nationwide.
