Bullet proof your Nissan Navara

SVI Engineering, leading specialist manufacturer of armoured products, has developed a new B6 Stopgun V2.0 kit specifically for the locally produced Nissan Navara.

The popular Stopgun V2.0 package, which is also available for the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger line-ups as well as the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 in uprated Plus form, provides security forces with a cost-effective B6 armouring solution to combat crime, escort valuables in transit and use on mining patrols.

Now its application has been extended to the increasingly popular Rosslyn-produced Nissan Navara, which earlier this year drove away with the 2022 South African Car of the Year award in 4×4 double-cab form.

The Stopgun V2.0 Kit

The semi-discreet kit for the Navara is available for both single- and double-cab body styles, and offers protection against assault rifles (including AK-47 and R1). While the package takes the customary four weeks to prepare, the installation time for this specific quick-fit kit falls from the normal three weeks to just two, with the vehicle remaining serviceable at the agent.

Dropping the widely used double-door system in favour of unobtrusive integrated door armour, the Stopgun V2.0 option includes upgraded door hinges to cope with the additional mass of the various B6 components. The Navara package furthermore gains unique features such as secondary bolt-action door locks and secondary door check straps.

Flat ballistic glass is fitted in each window frame to allow for easy replacement should damage be sustained during an attack, while gunports are provided as standard (though these can be deleted upon request). Furthermore, where fitted, the bakkie’s curtain airbag remains fully functional.

In addition to the aforementioned integrated door armour, the roof, front fenders, all pillars, all glass and part of the firewall gain B6 bullet-resistant protection, as do critical components such as the vehicle’s battery and ABS unit. SVI’s engineers have furthermore integrated a special armour-overlap system to minimise ballistic gaps. Finally, a front suspension upgrade is included in the purchase price.

Already in action

SVI has delivered its first Stopgun-equipped Navara bakkie to a prominent security company, with this initial unit already in service.

Nicol Louw, business development director at SVI, says considering the growing popularity of Nissan’s locally produced one-tonne bakkie, it made sense to develop a Navara-specific version of the Stopgun V2.0 package to meet the needs of the security industry.

“Since Nissan started building the Navara in South Africa last year – also expanding the range to include single-cab workhorses – its share of the local bakkie market has grown substantially. The development of this latest Stopgun V2.0 kit provides security firms requiring crime-fighting tools with another robust, cost-effective option,” said Louw.
