67 Blankets invites residents to a knitting initiative on Mandela Day at Ferndale on Republic

Ferndale on Republic shopping centre partners with 67 Blankets for Mandela Day for a knitting initiative on July 18.

The celebration of Mandela Day has begun at Ferndale on Republic shopping centre, as they once again partner with 67 Blankets for Mandela Day in a heartwarming three-day crafting initiative.

The event started on July 16 and will run until the 19th. The shopping centre has been transformed into a vibrant hub of activity as the ambassadors, Knit Wits, have come together with some of the residents to knit and crochet blankets and scarves that will be donated in the spirit of Mandela Day.

The community members are urged to visit the centre and spend some time learning how to knit and crochet.

Velly Matsebatlela, an ambassador for 67 Blankets, said that they want residents to be aware of 67 Blankets and, most importantly, to teach residents the skill.

“We don’t want the skill of knitting and crochet to fade away. We invite residents to come and spend time with us, and we will teach them for free.”

Matsebatlela added that these blankets will be donated to those in need, spreading warmth and compassion throughout the community.

“Throughout the year we make blankets that we donate, and in July, as it is a special month, we do scarves with a special message on the tags. We then hang them on poles everywhere for those who need them to take and use them.”
