Watch: Baby honey badger carried off by lion

A rare sighting of a honey badger cub and three male lions was caught on camera near the Phalaborwa Gate.

Honey badger sightings in the Kruger National Park are rare – and seeing one during the day is like finding a four-leaf clover. And as for a honey badger cub? That’s nearly impossible.

However, 37-year-old accountant and wildlife photography enthusiast Leon Badenhorst was lucky enough to capture the moment three lions found a stranded cub on the H9 tar road near the Phalaborwa Gate.

In video footage shared with LatestSightings.com, the little one is seen on the road – with a somewhat bemused lion sniffing and curiously inspecting the little animal. And then, a little while later, it picked it up with its teeth and disappeared into the grass with it.

“When the lion came back, the baby was no longer with it, and I didn’t hear the squeals again,” Badenhorst is quoted as saying.
