Potential adopters are encouraged to interact with the animals before deciding. Those who already own pets must arrange a compatibility meet-and-greet at the SPCA, and existing pets must be sterilised before an adoption can proceed. Applicants must complete an adoption form and submit a copy of their ID, proof of address and, where applicable, written permission from their landlord or body corporate. A compulsory home inspection will also be scheduled.

Adoption fees cover sterilisation, vaccination, deworming and microchipping. Adult dogs cost R1 000, adult cats cost R900, while puppies and kittens cost R1 100. Once an adoption is approved and the animal is ready, adopters have 48 hours to collect their new companion.
