Criminal found hiding in resident’s garage during break-in

The security company's operations manager said that the incident of break-in and theft occurred on Van Riebeeck Street in Homelake.

A criminal was stopped in his tracks and apprehended immediately after he was found hiding in a resident’s garage.

When found he had a knife and screwdriver in his possession.

This was on July 6 and forms part of the two incidents that security company Mapogo A Mathamaga responded to last week in Rand West City.

The security company’s operations manager, Danie Vermeulen, said that the incident of break-in and theft occurred on Van Riebeeck Street in Homelake at about 16:16.

“The control room received a phone call from a client who informed them that he heard a noise from his garage. We then dispatched armed response units immediately and upon arrival the reaction officer noticed the perp inside the garage of the client. The person was swiftly arrested and detained. A knife and a screwdriver were also found in his possession,” said Vermeulen.

He added that another incident in the form of a business break-in and theft was recorded by the security company in Tulbach Street in Culemborg Park on July 4 where criminals gained entry into the business premises and forced open the security and office doors.

They proceeded to steal two laptops and speakers, as well as an unknown number of tools.
