The old North Way extension road connecting Randfontein to Tarlton and Krugersdorp is currently under construction.
Previously the road was in the news for all the wrong reasons and had caused much headache for business owners in the area owing to its construction being brought to a halt by the Provincial Department of Roads and Transport for reasons unknown.
According to DA Ward 9 Councilor Peter Dick, the Department’s decision to appoint another construction company to carry on with the construction is welcomed by all.
“I cannot express how happy we are that this is happening in our town.
“It will bring much relief to the already frustrated residents as well as motorists who usually had a tough time traveling in and out of Randfontein using the dirt road.
“In most cases, people would opt not to use the road owing to its bad condition and needless to say that businesses located in the area were negatively affected.
“This will soon be a thing of the past as things are expected to pick up once the road is completed,” says Dick.
He adds that the project is expected to come with job opportunities for residents of Ward 9 as well as those who reside in Tarlton.
“In implementing the project, we thought that it was important to absorb the unemployed people residing in ward 9.
“Those working on this construction project will walk away with a hands-on construction experience and will have the opportunity to apply that elsewhere in their future endeavors,” says Dick
The road is expected to be completed some time next year.
