Police sting operation a success: 60 arrests

This should be a warning to the law breakers.

Over 60 people were arrested during a massive sting operation initiated by Westonaria and Bekkersdal SAPS on 18 July

According to Westonaria spokesperson Thembi Masango, the suspects were arrested around Westonaria, Modderfontein, Bekkkersdal and Simunye for various crimes ranging from public drinking, possession of drugs, illegal mining, trading without a liquor license and many other crimes.

According to Masango, 45 of the suspects were found to be in possession of illegal substances while two suspects were arrested for selling alcohol without a liquor license.

“We are very happy with the arrests made.

“This goes to show that the police are hard at work and determined to root out criminals.

“This should be a warning to the law breakers in Westonaria and its surrounds that police officers are visible and no one is above the law.

“At no point will we tolerate criminal and illegal activities to plague our communities.

“I want to make it clear that the long arm of the law will catch up with them one way or the other,” says Masango.

She adds that the suspects are currently in custody and expected to appear at the Westonaria Magistrates Court soon.
