West Rand recycling centre falls flat

If this happened in a business entity, heads would have rolled by now.

The plastic recycling centre in Westonaria which is an entity of the West Rand District Municipality’s Development Agency has not been functioning since February this year.

This comes after a cable theft at the premises led to a halt of recycling processes at the site.

According to the WRDM DA Caucus Chairman Dennis Pretorius, this matter should have been resolved by now as it impacts negetively on the rate of employment and recycling as a whole.

“DA councilors have gone out to the site in question on numerous occasions and have seen nothing but closed doors and no activities whatsoever.

“Following this, we have raised the issue in council for the past few months and submitted various letters to the Municipal Manager David Mokoena and the Executive Mayor Mpho Nawa but there has been no response thus far.

“This matter has been neglected by the board of the West Rand Development Agency and Nawa as the representative shareholder.

“They have allowed the delay of installing a new cable which prevents production at the site..

“If this happened in other business entities, heads would have rolled by now.

“This is proof that the government cannot run business properly.

“It is not able to react to a crisis like this as it does not have the skills to do so,” says Pretorius.

The West Rand District Municipality spokesperson Dennis Mangope says that he will gather the necessary information and formulate a response.
