The Westonaria SAPS has reported that car theft cases are on a rise in parking lots throughout Westonaria and has urged motorists to take precaution at all times.
According to Westonaria SAPS spokesperson Constable Thembi Masango, the police have seen a drastic increase in vehicle theft cases in parking areas at the Shoprite and Pick ‘n Pay outlets, as well as in Edwards Avenue and in President Steyn Street.
“Owing to this, we urge motorists to make sure that their cars are locked at all times.
“Do not leave cellphones, laptops and other valuable items in your vehicle as this is usually one of the things that lure criminals to cars,” says Masango.
She adds that the cars which are being targeted are usually older model vehicles, most likely without a tracker or an alarm system.
