Residents fed up with sewage woes

I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we are fed up with this nonsense.

The Randfontein Local Municipality is in the news for the wrong reasons once again as it fails to effectively respond to complaints by residents with regards to another sewage spill in Greenhills.

A blocked manhole on Danne Avenue has resulted in sewage overflowing all the way to Falcon Street.

According to frustrated resident Ansie Nortje, she together with other residents in the area, are fed up with living in a stinking area and have done their bit to solve the problem.

“We have contacted the local municipality about the problem on numerous occasions but our efforts were in vain.

“It has been two weeks and still nothing has been done.

“I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we are sick and tired of this and we demand that it be fixed,” says Nortjie.

According to Randfontein Local Municipality spokesperson Lucky Chiya, he has noted residents’ concerns and will revert back with comment in due course.

“We do understand residents’ concerns but we encourage that they be patient with us.

“Nonetheless. I will contact the relevant department with regard to the issue and revert back with comment,” says Chiya.
