W/aria unveils refurbished road

Residents urged not to burn it with burning tyres when protesting.

The Westonaria Local Municipality unveiled the revamped George Sacks road in Zuurberkom on 26 September despite the fact that it has been in use by residents and motorists of the area for some time.

The road in question links up the N12 and the Randfontein Road and is a short route from Westonaria to other areas such as Glenridge, Protea Glen and Soweto.

According to the Westonaria Local Municipality Executive Mayor Nonkoliso Tundzi, more than R15 million was spent towards its construction.

“Despite the stipulated figures, what matters most is the fact more than five local sub-contractors were appointed to build this road,” says Tundzi.

“A total of 27 labourers also benefited from this project in terms of a skills development and transfer programme.”
