Video: pupil stabbed at local school

The boys pulled knives on each other during an argument.

Update: 16 October: A video depicting the aftermath of the stabbing of a Bekkersdal schoolboy has emerged.

The video was taken by a fellow pupil just minutes after the stabbing and is spread around by pupils via BBM, Whatsapp and MMS.

The boy was fatally stabbed after getting involved in an altercation with another pupil.

The other pupil fled from the scene after the incident but was handed over to police b y his father the following day.

The video depicts teachers rushing to the aid of the seriously injured boy and exclaiming in shock at the extent of his injuries.

Two teachers try to carry the boy out of the building, but to no avail.

The boy was declared dead at the scene by paramedics just minutes later.

Please note that the video contains explicit language and scenes of a disturbing and graphic nature.

Update: 9 October:  The father of a 17-year-old schoolboy who allegedly stabbed 16-year-old Bongo Soxokashi to death at the Kgothalang High School in Bekkersdal on 8 October, has handed his son over to police.

The man apparently took his son in to the Bekkersdal police station on 9 October.

Numerous schools in Bekkersdal are reportedly plagued by violence and fights are common at some schools.

The Herald has also received reports that some schools in the area are concerned about the prevalence of gangs among pupils.

The boy has been charged with murder, and will appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ court shortly.

The Herald has submitted questions regarding the incident to the Department of Education.

8 October: A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death by a fellow pupil at the Kgothalang High School in Bekkersdal on 7 October.

It is suspected that a fight broke out between the two after the suspect threw an umbrella on the wall which ricocheted back and hit the victim.

According to Westonaria SAPS spokesperson Constable Thembi Masango, it is understood that an argument erupted shortly after this which led to the pupils pulling knives on each other.

“After multiple stab wounds, the 16-year-old succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

“The suspect fled from the scene and is currently wanted by the police.

“A murder docket has been opened,” says Masango.
