Crime operation yields results

The police will continue to keep an eye on things.

A total of 17 people were caught and arrested on numerous charges in Bekkersdal on 28 October.

These arrests were made during a stop-and-search operation on Khomo ya Hlaba Street amidst the violent protest actions that have been spreading throughout the area.

According to Westonaria SAPS spokesperson Thembi Masango, suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from attempted murder to the possession of dagga and other illegal substances, and being illegal immigrants.

“In line with the recent protest actions in the area, we have increased police visibility and decided to embark on the stop-and-search sting operation.

“Our aim is to protect residents of the area by trying to detect items being transported in and out of the township that might be a threat to residents’ lives,” says Masango.
