A shopkeeper was shot in the head and a worker injured during a business robbery at a shop in the Zenzele informal settlement on 15 October at approximately 10am.
The shopkeeper just stepped outside to assist someone who was screaming for help when the incident occurred.
He was overpowered by two unknown men who were armed.
They held the shopkeeper and his workers at gunpoint and forced them back into the shop.
A brief but intense fight broke out between one of the suspects and the victims and that is when the shopkeeper was shot in the head.
Another shot was fired at his employee and he was injured in the body.
According to Randfontein SAPS Captain Appel Ernst, shortly after this incident transpired the suspects tied up all the victims.
“They ensued to rob the shop and took a substantial amount of cash and airtime.
“They fled on foot and upon the police’s arrival, the victims were taken to hospital were they were treated,” says Ernst.
She adds that Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker is investigating the case and can be contacted on 011 287 8100.
