The office of the mayor within the Randfontein Local Municipality together with the Randfontein Community Works Project (CWP) held a successful clean-up campaign on 14 Januray at the Toekomsrus Primary School.
This was one of three schools where the campaign took place with other schools being Thuto Bokamoso Primary School and the Bulelani Primary School in Mohlakeng.
According to MMC of Public Safety Brenda Mahuma who was also present at the campaign, the aim is to ensure that the schools are prepared for this academic year.
“Basically we wanted to check on the school’s readiness for the new year and assist where we can with regards to environmental aspects, stationary, feeding schemes and other necessities.
She adds that they will be back for a second visit to assess if all went well since the inception of the campaign.
“We as a council have decided to put education first and this is one of our many initiatives aimed at ensuring that our children go to schools in a conducive environment.
“It is only through such visits that we can see if any assistance is needed in our schools,” says Mahuma.
Meanwhile, Toekomrus Primary Principal Noeleen Henney says that she appreciates the effort and believes that they are more than prepared for the school year ahead.
“I just want to thank them for their efforts and their assistance is highly appreciated,” says Henney.
