W’aria mayor launches back to school campaign

The mayor and her team will be cleaning schools and handing out uniforms to underprevileged children.

The Westonaria Local Municipality Executive Mayor Nonkoliso Tundzi has launched a back to school campaign throughout the schools in Westonaria, which will se schools being cleaned up as well as school uniforms being handed out to underprivileged children in the area.

The campaign is being hosted in conjunction with the Parliamenary Constituency office as well as the Department of Social Development in Westonaria.

According to Tundzi, the purpose of the campaign is to assess learning environments in schools and strengthen government support towards education.

“Municipal workers within the council will be visiting schools during the specified period to help with the cleaning of schools and to hand out school uniforms to identified children,” says Tundzi.

“This is to ensure that our children and teachers alike are well-prepared for the school year ahead.

“It will also give us a chance to assist where there is a need in terms of empowerment and the necessary resources,” says Tundzi.

She adds that at the end of the campaign, the departments within the municipality will have visited a total of 11 schools.

“We trust that this campaign will have a positive impact on the schools and will give teachers the reassurance that the municipality is there for them should they need support in any form.”
