Fetus discovered near taxi rank

Commuters were shocked to find the fetus inside a plastic bag on the ground.

A fetus was discovered inside a plastic bag near the taxi rank on Village Street, Randfontein on 2 February.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, commuters from the nearby taxi rank noticed the plastic bag on the ground and upon closer inspection they realized that there was a fetus in the bag.

police were called to the scene and upon arrival bystanders pointed out the bag.

“The fetus is estimated to be the result of a three or four month pregnancy,” says Ernst.

“I can confirm that the fetus was removed from the scene and that a case of concealment of birth was opened.

“We urge anyone with any information pertaining to this case to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Disco Thieane on 011 278 8100,” says Ernst.
