Trudy’s Nest appreciates help from community

Trudy's Nest are truly greatful for the help from the community and will strive to continue helping the disadvantaged elderly in the Toekomsrus community.

Trudy’s Nest is a non-profit organisation that works with disadvantaged elderly groups as well as disadvantaged families in Toekomsrus, Westergloor and the Dumping Site informal settlement.

According to the founder of Trudy’s Nest, Trudy Haywood, the need for care and support among the elderly in the community is increasing.

“With the increase of food prices and other living costs, the elderly’s pensions are not enough to cover all their expenses,” says Trudy.

“Therefore we strive to give these disadvantaged elderly people a meal everyday.”

She adds that Trudy’s Nest was fortunate enough to get a generous donation from local businessman, Maurice Adams.

“Maurice came to visit our organisation one day and immediately decided that he wants to contribute towards our success.

He vowed to supply us with chicken pieces for the elderly on a weekly basis,” says Trudy.

Many pensioners and children in the community are abandoned and homeless and a lot of the things that the average person takes for granted is a complete luxury for a lot of these people.

Therefore this donation by Maurice from All2Gether Labour is a huge help, seeing that things such as a warm bath, clean clothes and at least one meal per week is a blessing to many of these elderly community members.

“I am devoted to helping the underprivileged people in my community and I believe that it is my calling in life.

“People such as Maurice are truly God sent and makes my work so much easier,” says Trudy.

Trudy and her team of caregivers also thanks Butterfield Bakery for their help and sponsorship.

Trudy’s work is completely reliant on her own income and donations from the community, therefore if anyone wants to get involved in the work she is doing, feel free to call her on 071 388 4159.
