Mayor proud of Randfontein residents

Despite service delivery protests at local informal settlements, Randfontein as a whole had peaceful elections on 7 May.

The Randfontein Local Muncipality has extended a word of gratitude to residents of Randfontein for the manner in which they carried themselves during the 2014 National and Provincial Elections.

According to a statement released by Lucky Chiya, the spokesperson at the office of Randfontein Executive Mayor Sylvia Thebenare, the mayor is proud of how Randfontein managed to have peaceful elections at all their voting stations.

“The mayor would like to express her gratitude to the residents of Randfontein and the various political parties for showing respect to one another during the elections.

“It was indeed humbling to witness political tolerance from various parties.

“If anything, this has reaffirmed the political maturity of our democracy,” says Chiya.

He adds that the Mayor is proud that the outcome of the elections and says that they are a reflection of how the people of South Africa feel about their democracy.
