Traffic officer accused of causing an accident
The traffic officer jumped in front of a moving car without giving him enough time to stop.
Randfontein — A Randfontein traffic officer stands accused of having caused an accident on the R28 recently after jumping in front of a moving car in order to stop a motorist.
The incident occurred during a roadblock that was held between Radnfontein and Westonaria.
According to the motorist, a local pastor who does not wish to be named, he was traveling from Randfontein to Westonaria and spotted a roadblock ahead of him.
“I spotted traffic officers on the left side of the road and I reduced my speed.,” says the man.
“The next moment, a female traffic officer came out of nowhere on the right side of the road and jumped in front of my car.
“I slammed down on the brakes to in a desperate attempt avoid hitting her and the car behind me smashed into me as a result.”
According to the obviously shocked man, the traffic officer was not wearing a reflective jacket, even though it had started getting dark.
“Even if she was I would probably not have been able to avoid the accident.
“She just came out of nowhere.”
The Herald has contacted the Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo for comment on the matter, but he has not responded to our request.
