Baby born in police station

Police go beyond the call of duty and deliver a baby in a police station.

To the surprise of the Tarlton Police as well as one highly pregnant mother in her mid 30s, three constables delivered a baby in the police station’s Client Services Centre (CSC) on Thursday morning.

According to Constable Lucky Matome, spokesperson for the Tarlton police, “A pregnant woman allegedly walked into the CSC at approximately 2am this morning and informed police officers on duty that she called an ambulance because she suspected that she was about to give birth.”

Constable Dickson, Matlhaba and Baloyi helped the woman. While they were waiting for the ambulance, the woman indicated that she was on the cusp of giving birth.

Constable Baloyi, who has had training in Basic Ambulance Assistance put his training to the test and delivered the baby.

“These three officers went beyond the call of duty in bringing a healthy baby boy into this world. The Gauteng EMS arrived a few minutes later and confirmed the baby to be in a healthy condition and both the new born and the mother were taken to hospital for further medical attention,” Matome said.

“The acting station commander of Tarlton police, Captain L.S Nkhumane applaided the officers for going beyond their call of duty and for working as a team in assisting the woman,” he concluded.
