CPF collects over R13 000 for disabled girl

Donations will go towards a new wheelchair for disabled girl.

The Randfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) collected over R13 000 for a wheelchair for a disabled girl.

Nikita Hoffman, 12, is disabled both physically and mentally.

She is  herself and has to follow a strict diet. She also suffers from epilepsy.

A custom-made wheelchair is beneficial to improve the quality of life of physically disabled people as it is designed to meet the needs of one particular person.

The chair Nikita currently uses is a make-shift one made from the metal frame of an old wheelchair and a wooden board in the front that is used as a tray.

The funds not only will go towards a new wheelchair but also to help her grandparents buy the things Nikita desperately needs.

The fundraiser was held on Saturday (1 August).

According to Louise van Wyk, deputy secretary of the Randfontein CPF, they collected R13 100 within 13 hours thanks to the generosity of the CPF members.

“Hendrik van Wyk (Sector 5 CPF chairperson) took it upon himself to ask for donations. From 9pm on Saturday to 10:30am Sunday, he managed to raise R13 100,” she said.

The funds were handed over on Sunday (2 August) at the Rikasrus Neighbourhood Watch Hall.
