Think again before you leave valuables in your car
'Always be cautious, you do not want to be the next victim' — Police.
The Westonaria Police are concerned about a rise in theft out of vehicle over the past few months.
Captain Siphiwe Ndlovo, Spokesperson for the Westonaria Police said, “Various incidents in Westonaria have been reported to the Westonaria Police. On Monday, 14 September, at about 5:30pm, the victim parked his motor vehicle at the business parking area at Westonaria. He left his laptop on the passenger seat and his cellular phone in the car. The doors of the vehicle were properly locked and windows were closed.”
The victim then went to go do his shopping and when he returned to his car he saw that his laptop and cellular phone was stolen from the car. The tendency of leaving valuable items in motor vehicles where they can be seen by criminals contribute to this kind of criminal activity. Criminals target items such as laptops, cellular phones, radios, clothing, money and handbags that lays around in the car.”
The Westonaria Police urge residents to not to leave their valuables in their vehicle where criminals can see it and get tempted by it. Before leaving your car in the parking area make sure the doors are locked by checking it physically and also make sure the windows are closed. Criminals use a jamming device to open the locks of vehicles.
“Always be cautious, you do not want to be the next victim,” Ndlovu said.
